2014 Mollie Gavigan Service Award: Sheila Moore

DSAMT Awards 2014 Mollie Burd Gavigan Service Award to Sheila Moore. We are very pleased to announce that the 2014 recipient is Sheila Moore. Sheila is the mother of two children, Matthew and Katie; Matt is a well-known self-advocate. Sheila, Elise McMillan, and Joanne Drumright founded the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee in 1995 and served as the executive director for many years. Since leaving DSAMT in 2012, Sheila continues to advocate for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities through the Arc of Davidson County. She has served organizations for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities including the National Down Syndrome Society’s Governmental Affairs Committee, National Down Syndrome Congress Affiliate, Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities, Tennessee Post-Secondary Education Planning Council, Tennessee Alliance for Disabilities, and many other local and state committees She is a great parent, a voracious advocate, and a trailblazer. She has been instrumental in the community advocating for people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, and has been a part of everything leading up to where we are today in regards to Down syndrome in Middle Tennessee. Thank you, Sheila, for everything you have done in the Down syndrome community.
