2023 Self-Advocate of the Year: Destiny Weldon
Since an early age Destiny has been very active. At Church she has helped in the nursery, packed and distributed food bags and backpacks for area schools, and participated in activities with Junior Velocity - the youth group. She has served as an officer and part of the leadership team for Project Unified. Destiney has participated in Choir, Music Therapy, and in a Guinness World Records attempt. In sports, Destiny has participated in track, basketball, soccer, bowling, a Hip Hop Dance team, and cheer (including being on the Junior Broncos Cheerleaders squad!). She has participated in several fashion shows and pageants promoting people with different abilities including "Be Beautiful, Be Yourself" Fashion show, Miss Colorado Special Princess and two fashion shows at Macy's. Destiny worked at Mama's Java for 2 years. She is an ambassador for Gigi's Playhouse and gave the keynote speech at their gala. She participates in several programs offered at Gigi's, Williamson County Rec Centers, had a team for the Extra Mile, assisted with DSAMT fundraisers, and participated in Our Stories, presentation for legislators in 2022
