The Extra Mile Award

The EXTRA Mile award was established in September 2022. Recipients are carefully chosen by the DSAMT Board of Directors to recognize any individual who has gone above and beyond for DSAMT. Awards can be given at any time.

HAYDEN CHAVEZ

Hayden has been volunteering for DSAMT since he was 7 years old when he helped at his first walk by putting exhibitor chairs out and helping to label spaces. Since that time, he only missed one walk due to Covid. Over the last several years Hayden Has helped with many DSAMT events including the Christmas parties, Easter Egg Hunts and drive through Bunny, 321 Celebrations, Extraordinary Evening Dances, Halloween Trunk or Treats, Baby Showers, Creative Arts Camp, and many other activities. He is there early helping set up, interacting as a friend or mentor during the event and cleaning up after the events. DSAMT Board member, Margaret Ann Williams stated "Hayden has always displayed a genuine interest in helping others. He is a very mature young man who exhibits exceptional character with positive values and goals. Hayden is well liked and respected by adults as well as by those individuals he interacts with at each event. It is very obvious, Hayden is concerned about others in his community. He exemplifies integrity and dependability. He puts others first, leads by example and is a role model for his peers."
